why is maya the least liked out of the trio?

i look like this and say this by the way

Zaryan No.57582
She isn't popular because maya is a loser.
People don't want to associate with losers and go for le wholesome and le quirky characters instead. Simple as.

PERSONALLY, i don't get it
mymy and coco are very boring, and i wouldn't hang out with them.
i WOULD hang out with maya doe, since she seems like she could talk for hours about stuff that she loves.

That's the thing, complaining about losers while being literally on an imageboard tells me that you're either a fakecel or you're engaging in some esoteric form of baiting. But if we have to go from a purely story perspective, Maya is borderline irredeemable in what she does or acts, not without reason of course, but for the average person, it's hard to connect to someone who has few redeeming qualities (and when they pop up, they're focused at getting her out of sticky situations). The only people who like Maya are... Mayas, and I think those are an overall minority to normalkikes (Cocos) and attention/posers/whatever (Mymys)

i guess i just don't understand, to me she is far from irredeemable.

i'm not even sure i can recall any moments where she actually did something horrible, other than when she said something ridiculously dismissive about her sister coco's deceased parents.

most of the other things she does, (telling coco that she's hanging out with friends, so that she doesn't have to be around her.) are done out of the very real fear of her being around with anyone she's with, and making them hate her, or embarrassing herself uncontrollably.

i'm sure that when she says things like what she said to coco it only fuels her desire to be away from everyone, constantly. even if she absolutely despises being alone, it's better than EVER being in a situation where she could (and always does) say something she cringes internally at. her adhd just makes this EVEN WORSE for her.
i in some ways relate to this, and it's why she's a very compelling character to me.

i might have just interpreted it incorrectly thoughbeit.

It's purely from a story perspective, Maya is, in fact, an antihero, she does only what is good for herself without too many qualms about the others (but doesn't do it out of malice). You could actually argue that Coco is less moral than Maya because at least Maya follows her own anti heroic moral, while Coco will literally resort to potentially killing something over a mildly offensive sentence and that her nice facade is just that. The show wants you to make you feel bad for Maya, it literally tries to do that multiple times over multiple shots and with its bleak tone, but it also wants you to try and get into Coco's thought process, by showing how absurd Maya's counter thought process can be at times (Deel 4 is a great example of that). Also Maya is the most compelling character, because she's the most detailed and explored one, close second being Coco

thank you for your perspective, i've always found it interesting to get other people's interpretations of stuff i enjoy.

To be fair, it's weirdly enough despite being the one threatening Maya, Coco was the one it felt saddest for. Imho, of course.

Zaryan No.57695

She's hopeless in social situations for now, but parts 3 and 6 show she has a rich inner world. With enough practice and passion, she could become a good conversationalist

That's because, by saying what she said, Maya attacked Coco about the one thing she IS sensitive about: her dead parents. The disappearance of the "nice facade" isn't her being "less moral;" it's a trauma response>>57590

But it's still a facade, which Maya doesn't have, making the latter more genuine

Coco's facade is genuine and sincere, it's simply her "better side of character", which she covers the other, "weak Coco" with.

>a facade, which Maya doesn’t have
The hell you say! Or did you forget where she told Coco she sits during the break? It’s a clumsy shield, and can therefore be dismantled quickly (as with her “Parkinson’s” excuse), but it’s still definitely there.
Actually, to some extent, her quietness in the classroom is a shield in and of itself; she’s so afraid of making a fool of herself in social situations that she doesn’t even try. Again, it’s a different shield from Coco’s, protecting different things for different reasons, but it’s still there
