I don’t know if something like this has already been done on the zarty but I thought a monthly art project might be a fun community event. We could suggest topics, themes, characters, etc. that we want to see or make and then vote on a google poll in the first few days of the month. Then throughout the rest of the month we’d post art related to the poll winning theme. It would be fun to see different zaryans’ takes on a prompt.

I don’t know if something like this has already been done on the zarty but I thought a monthly art project might be a fun community event. We could suggest topics, themes, characters, etc. that we want to see or make and then vote on a google poll in the first few days of the month. Then throughout the rest of the month we’d post art related to the poll winning theme. It would be fun to see different zaryans’ takes on a prompt.

I wanted to leave the poll up longer but the results are already so raped I don’t think there is much of a point. I unhid the results and it technically will still be votable but it is essentially over.
In the future the theme clearly cannot be character specific because it will immediately be ruined by obsessives. Themes from now on will be topics, places, or scenarios that any character could be put into, and results will be hidden until the poll ends.
That being said, this month’s winner needs to be determined despite obvious interference. The whole point of voting on a theme was to avoid having some SLF try to boss people around on what to do, to have it be an actual community product. I had to judge the poll through a combination of looking at when the votes were cast, the country of origin (nobody on this website is posting from Luxembourg or the British Virgin Islands), and the relative amount of shilling for the options in the thread.
I’m actually a mayafag and was rooting for paintball before the election fraud. Hopefully this eases accusations of bias when I say it seems like Bishop Mymy had the most real support, votes from more believable sources, and in a more believable pattern. It was close with Maya at the Hairdresser, but I will give the edge to the character without blatant fraud.
I still believe this can be a fun ongoing project despite this initial learning curve, and in the future hopefully voting will be less contentious.

Mymy’s baptism. Mymy wasn’t baptized as an infant in Japan and wants to be to after she goes with her friends to several services and learns more about Continental Reformed Christianity. I made this because I wanted to do a historical Church drawing for the theme and the Anglo Maya thing made it zarty relevant but I ran out of time so I made a quick edit of it instead. I felt bad putting it in the folder cause it was very low effort on my part and the actual painting is 95% of the frame, but I will put it in now.

The first thing I want to say is thank you all for voting, it is a great thing to see all of us come together and participate in a project like this.
The results seem almost completely legitimate, and any questionable votes (Kuwait, Malaysia) are limited and offset each other. The spread of votes matches the approximate amount and countries of zaryans and they came in a normal time frame. There may be other factors at play, but hiding the results seems to be effective at reducing voting interference.
I also think multiple choice is a good idea, and will be looking into ranked choice for the next vote now that interference seems to be at an insignificant level.

Nice looking lines, sometimes I have trouble making hair look convincingly affected by gravity when the head’s at an angle. Here are the regular art threads if that matters. They do a much better job of discussing WIPs and technique and actual art stuff there.

This month’s official theme is: PREHISTORIC ONGEZELLIG.
This theme is about zellig in prehistory, whether that be prehistoric humanity, wildlife, or anything else from any era before man created civilization. Of course, be as unrealistic as you want, make zelligs interact with your favorite dinosaur, zellig themed versions of any primeval fauna, early hominid zelligs, or anything else.
There have been great contributions so far, and I hope we can get more this month. I ask anyone who wants to be involved to make something, for us to work together as a community, if you don’t think you can draw, try something else! Because truly, the more the better.
Paint, trace, generate, create a song or a soundscape, flash animation, make a stick figure comic, write a story, anything you want.
Everyone is encouraged to get involved in xer own way, happy June!
