I consider them to be "friendly" acquaintances, probably some kind of front to seem as approachable as possible on Coco's end.
Doesn't surprise me, albeit. Coco's obviously a sweetheart, no matter how silently aggressive she can be seen acting, like when she nearly throws Maya out the window.
Wouldn't be surprised if she's subtly asked Cleo where she comes from, like where her ancestors originate. If they're friends, most likely she's not South African descent which is why she still hangs out with the brown cutie.
Well if we assume Coco was 5-6 when she got to the Netherlands I doubt she would really remember much, just passing thoughts here and there and blurred faces, it would be really really sad if Coco forgot how her parents looked like
