I don't think the writing team getting replaced is a super doomer take, it's probably one of the easier positions to replace anyways. Besides I would be practicing too if I wasn't getting any more of the narrative to work with.

They look a bit weird, especially Vera

It looks like Ongezellig, sure, but I don't think it delivers it's message sufficiently. 15 pages are probably too short for that.
The comic could be roughly analogous to a deel of the cartoon, but those existed together and built onto each other.

My headcanon is Vera's husband died from TB, and she wanted to forget this pain thanks to alcohol. As for her hobby, I think it's her shattered childhood dream of becoming a famous rocker (either she didn't have time to practice guitar or her parents didn't want to turn her into a rocker).
Vera is literally Maya, but her background is perhaps the saddest.

I don't think that after being bullied at school her future fate changed into that of a typical history teacher with an alcohol addiction.

It just doesn't have the character consistency. We don't see anything that indicates vera has a positive relationship with any students. In fact, in the student files she seems pretty doom and gloom about cleo wanting to become a musician, and from what we see in the pilot, she doesn't seem to find coco especially personable. I don't see her spending time with students playing music.

This is generally a line of writing I really hate, a character doesn't need some silly surface level trauma as a character driver, it's just lazy and uninspired. I also personally prefer it when things are left up to interpretation, maybe with a few hints dropped, rather than getting some half assed back story. I find it much more interesting to see what characters do than to what happened to them. I think a character's actions are a much better characterization, and serve much better to paint a picture of who that person is, compared to a flashback, which also breaks the story's structure by inserting past into the present.

Going a little off topic, but if you really want to disclose a part of a character's past, have the character themselves disclose it. It could be some vague statements that give us a peek into their mind and how they see the world or what happened to them, which we can use to speculate about their past, or simply have the character tell another what happened to them. This way the story structure isn't broken, and the character is also given a chance to more clearly describe the event(s) and how they effected the character, and how the character understands them. Flashbacks are just gay and lazy, uninspired and unimaginative.

I think they have tried to explain special Vera's enmity towards Maya and Schoppenboers at all through this. Comic shows that Maya's parents were bullying her, so it makes sense in manner.

Now, does this thing have big shoes to fill, let's start with what I liked.
The background is good, and the last shot where Vera is portrayed as a younger version of herself because she started playing again was smart. And I think that's about it.

Now let's list what I didn't like. For being a dialogueless strip, it sure doesn't rely much on visual cues and could actually use a lot of tweaking, even dropping the half assed "show, don't tell approach". Vera always felt more like a character that sacrificed everything to become a big rockstar, failed at that, became a teacher and then got bitter overtime when she understood she was also not going to teach music (or that the students simply didn't care), instead of "being laughed at by literal whos". The scene featuring Maya's parents was weird, because we know there is a consistent age gap between them, and couldn't possibly attend the same class because of that. So where were they? College, maybe? Present day Vera, Coco and some of the other students looked way too weird, almost like sticks with round balloony heads, the Valentine's comic and the trip one looked way better in comparison. The scene where young Vera cries is not good at all and seems like it escaped from someone's else DeviantArt gallery.

There's a lot which could be improved, we know from her own notes that she doesn't exactly like the students at all, so for her to spontaneously play with the band is nothing short of out of character, there's no actual reason as to why she would want to do that, especially if she got laughed at not even 5 minutes ago by her students. Maybe Coco approaches her and asks her for advice for the band, and Vera is hesitant at first or straight up shuts down her request. And only THEN you can build up on that.
