I assume so he could tie in Suriname without say, creating another sister exclusively from Suriname and due to Indian being one of the most prevalent groups in Suriname (27.4% from a 2012 census) He thought it would make sense.
However, if you want to take a more positive note, Massa had realeased some portraits of the girls (iirc drawn by his gf) which depict them in a more realistic manner. Maya's drawing depicts her looking more like a hapa if anything else.
