Has it actually been said anywhere that Maya has social anxiety? I think she just has trouble being social and not that she’s actually afraid of people
Zaryan No.130997
I mean I think it's pretty obvious she has, though Massa did write down she was not autistic (evendoe that's a lie)

I don’t think so, really. She didn’t seem all that “scared” or “petrified” in the classroom, even when Vera called her out on not having a presentation, and she seemed more annoyed than anything. Yeah shes nervous when she does present, but it’s Vera shes presenting to and she’s not exactly the most comforting person

Hiding in the bathroom during lunch break kinda seems anxious to me, if she didn’t care she could just eat by herself in the same place as everyone else.

check the lore doc

that's more anti-social/depressed, not social anxiety disorder. social anxiety doesn't mean being lonely, it means you're genuinely afraid of interacting with people. Maya does try to avoid people as much as possible, but it doesn't equate social anxiety disorder
Zaryan No.131007
>>131002
that states that she just has difficulties interacting with people, not that she has social anxiety disorder (because it is a disorder)
Zaryan No.131008
>>131006
i know that sounds stupid, but considering she can talk with her family just fine (even though she may not do it willingly or that often) it probably means she doesn't have social anxiety disorder
Zaryan No.131010
>>131008
Same reason you don't talk to people chud, that would be too uncomfortable and would require you to actually try
Zaryan No.131014
>>131010
i talk to people nigga, but good point i guess

She hides in her room when Running in the 60s comes over, her legs are shaking when she asks Coco and Mymy for help and she can’t say yes to playing the game with them, ik ben het maar is about not wanting to be perceived, that’s all way more indicative of anxiety than antisocial behavior or depression
Zaryan No.131019
>>131016
>She hides in her room
okay and where else is she supposed to go? downstairs? why would she bother them while theyre playing? if feels like you added this because you wanted there to be 3 points
>her legs are shaking
because she's embarresed that she needs help after rejecting it. she's completely fine when she sits down.
>ik ben het maar
yeah, its about WANTING TO BE ALONE, not anxiety. those are different things. people enjoy being alone, and it's likely her just being defensive because people keep invading her private space
Zaryan No.131023
>>131019
She times using the bathroom to avoid even seeing one of them. That’s avoidant behavior. So is saying you would “rather die than go out”. Do you think Coco or Mymy would shake like that if they rejected help and then actually needed it? I don’t know if Maya has diagnosable Social Anxiety Disorder, but she definitely has anxieties about social situations.
Zaryan No.131033
>>131023
>but she definitely has anxieties about social situations.
aka NOT social anxiety.
she probably has persistant depressive disorder, which is far less severe than regular depression, but lasts much much longer and has that feeling of being "down in the dumps", which sounds very Maya

The OP was asking if Maya has social anxiety, and she’s not actually afraid of people. What is this if it’s not being afraid of people and social situations?
Zaryan No.131036
>>131035
Imposter syndrome would kick in for Maya anyways because even if invited she wouldn't feel comfortable there or as belonging, that's why she tries to reinforce her already pre-conceived notion by doing everything in her power to NOT get invited
Zaryan No.131037
>>131036
>if invited
She was invited to Coco’s party and she fantasized about throwing herself down a staircase to avoid either having to go and be afraid, humiliated, ashamed, and uncomfortable the entire time, or explain to Coco that she feels this way.
Doebeit she does reinforce those preconceived notions when she doesn’t sign up for the class surprises because she thinks she needs to be invited.
Zaryan No.131039
>>131037
Yeah because Maya tries to find every reason to upkeep her skewed view of the world, you see this many many times, be it voluntarily or not, even not doing the assignment reinforces her worldview
Zaryan No.131041
>>131039
I agree that she self sabotages and fear of people and social situations is not her only problem, but it is one of her problems. She does have these fears and doesn’t try to overcome them because she also wrongly thinks it’s best for everyone for her to stay away.
