I'm thinking of starting up a imageboard but I'm completely inexperienced can you guys give me some advice on how to start one? Stuff like what software to run it on, where to buy domains, how to advertise it.
- Buy a domain
- Find a guide how to install software (like vichan or jschan)
- Once you installed software you can manage things with options

it would never be intended to be a splinter of another site since those always end badly. at most it would borrow culture from other sites to a similar extent to the zarty does to the sharty or the sharty does to 4chan

I don't think it's even possible to have a non-splinter imageboard these days, you need to first have a group of rather similar and interested in the same topics posters that are not satisfied in staying in some place (otherwise why would they leave?) and only then you can move them to your website. Notice how the only somewhat alive splinters currently are the zarty and the chinny, lesson in there.

that's a cope, you don't necessarily have to like what they post, and if their culture was supposed to be identical to the zarty culture they would post here and not there, there are imageboards like sturdychan that you may dislike, but it doesn't automatically mean they didn't succeed in filling the exact niche they intented to fill

I was also inexperienced when i started the zarty, so it took me longer to set it up than it should have.
