The Wertherian Zartycuck: Werther von Zell

Physical Appearance

Pale as parchment from spending days in dimly lit rooms watching the same six episodes of Ongezellig on loop, not for the plot but for her. His eyes — large, watery, perpetually reddened from tears and screen glare — reflect an inner sensitivity that the crude 'teens of the Sharty could never comprehend. He dresses in the colors of his beloved: soft greys and dark blues, the palette of Maya's isolation. A locket hangs at his throat containing not a photograph, but a frame from the show — the moment Maya is shown alone, her hair loose from its bun, free from the performance of social existence.

Character & Temperament

The Sorrows of Young Zaryan: Werther von Zell is not "non-hostile" — he is too sensitive for hostility. The rough jostling of the Sharty, the cruel gem/coal binary, the very aggression of online discourse — these are barbarisms that wound his exquisite nervous system. He did not leave the Sharty; he retreated to the Zarty as one retreats to a sanitarium, seeking a cure for his soul in the only place that understands alienation.

The Cult of Sensibility: Where others see a "Dutch cartoon," Werther perceives sublime art. He watches Ongezellig not for entertainment but for communion with his double. The show's title — meaning "not gezellig" (unsociable) — is not merely the title; it is his diagnosis. Maya is not a character to him. She is the only one who understands.

The Unattainable Maya: His love for Maya is not base "waifufagging" — it is Werther's Lotte, but deeper, for Maya is himself. Maya, the friendless introvert with social anxiety and suspected autism, the girl who spends her days withdrawn and isolated, who struggles with ADD and simple presentations — she is his s

he is his soul reflected in animated form. She is separated from him by the screen, by fiction, by the impossibility of reaching through the glass to touch her hand during her panic. This unattainability makes his love pure and tragic — unsullied by physical reality, sanctified by shared suffering.

He does not love her despite her anxiety; he loves her because of it. When she is shown alone, hair down, free from the bun that constrains her for society — this is sacred. When she snaps at Coco, when she retreats into fantasy — these are not character flaws. They are the only authentic responses to an unbearable world.

The /co/ Conflict as Social Alienation: Werther does not hate the /co/omers; he pities them with contempt. Their "troon-friendly" desire to transform Maya — to make her trans, to change her, to "fix" her anxiety with their crude ideologies — this is violence against the soul. Maya needs no transformation. Her anxiety is her genius. Her social withdrawal is her superiority. They would make her into something sociable, "gezellig," and in doing so destroy the very thing that makes her her. He writes long letters (posts) about their barbarism, not in anger, but in melancholy recognition that society always seeks to destroy what it cannot understand.

The Nature Worship

Werther finds his only solace in the natural world as filtered through Maya's isolation. He does not go outside — the grey Dutch skies of Ongezellig, the school hallways she fears, the empty rooms where she is alone with her thoughts — these are his forests and mountains. He has cultivated the ability to weep at the beauty of her unmade bed, to find in her daydreams a metaphysics of escape, to see in her struggle with a simple presentation the tragedy of existence itself.

Coco and Mymy are not rivals; they are threats. Coco's intrusion into Maya's solitude, Mymy's nationalist noise — these are the forces that disturb his

beloved's peace. He tolerates them only because Maya must tolerate them. In his ideal world, the show would be six hours of Maya alone, hair down, free from the performance of being.

The Self-Destructive Tragedy

Like Goethe's Werther, our Zaryan is doomed by his own sensitivity. The "Ongezelligpedo" accusations wound him precisely because they misunderstand the purity of his love — he does not desire Maya carnally; he desires to merge with her isolation, to prove that he is the only one who truly sees her, to become worthy of her anxiety by having anxiety of his own. The locked board structure — forced to choose between Coco, Mymy, and Maya threads — was never a choice. There was only ever Maya.

The Werther Effect: He romanticizes his own destruction. The Zarty will fall (all splinters do), and when it does, Werther von Zell will not migrate to another board. He will end his participation — not with a bang, but with a final, exquisite post about Maya's hair falling loose from its bun, a testament to feeling in a world that has forgotten how to feel, a world that would make her "gezellig" and thus destroy her.

The Quote Connection

He does not worship Quote as an admin — he sees in Quote a fellow sufferer, one who also recognized something in Ongezellig, though Quote chose Coco and thus proved himself still capable of choosing the cheerful over the tragic. Werther alone chose Maya. He is the only true Zaryan.

Final Scene

In the end, Werther von Zell is discovered in his room, the six episodes of Ongezellig playing on loop, paused on the frame of Maya alone. A pistol (metaphorically — perhaps a permaban or self-deletion) by his side. His final post, found open on his screen:

*"I have loved her, this Maya, this unsociable soul, with a love that the Sharty cannot comprehend. They call me pedo, cuck, zaryan — but I have felt more in watching her struggle with a presentation than they will feel in their entire lives of

gem and coal. I go now to the only board that does not delete — the board of memory. She will not be made 'trans.' She will not be made sociable. In my heart, she remains forever ungezellig, forever alone, forever mine in the only way that matters — understood."*

The Wertherian Zartycuck is not a loser or a pedophile. He is the last romantic, destroyed by the very sensitivity that made him capable of recognizing, in Maya's anxiety, the only authentic existence in a false world.
