The reason for the abundance of this feeling of toxic positivity on the aforementioned sites is due to the heavy amount of rules set in place in these communities, as even places such as Discord, which lack the score-based system of Reddit, still harbor the same feel to them. This coupled with the fact that these communities are typically of left leaning politics, create a community full of people whom are afraid of insulting or even criticizing each other, like people walking on egg shells! And as the Zaryan above me said, a noticeable amount of this is also used to "groom" people, if you will.
