The central issue of how to make two broken people understand each other when the ways they are broken make even understanding the way the other is broken extremely difficult. Lots of fics use Maya reaching some kind of breaking point and having an outburst, which is not necessarily a terrible explanation, but it usually is done poorly. I think Maya seeing Coco when she is vulnerable would crack her image in Maya’s mind and can be a good place to start looking. How or why this would happen and what it would look like, I have no clue.
