Otherwise it would probably just end up as Epke rescuing Maya from her problems like a white knight which I think is usually an uninteresting story. There was a fanfic being discussed in the fic thread last week where this played out but with Roos instead of Epke, and it suffered from the same problem, on top of being essentially yuricoal.
