that's a misrepresentation of what a "mask" even is, in this situation.
you can't really describe maya's lies as a mask that she wears because they're such obvious ones and i believe that's completely on purpose.
the intention of her lies is also completely different, she doesn't lie to hide who or what she is but rather to get away from the situations that make her feel even more addicted to isolating herself, which makes no sense, because to get away from those situations that make her want to isolate herself, she must isolate herself.
