I'll take your word for it. I do know that Eastern English have more Germanic admixture than west anglos, scots, and welsh.

I mean yeah ok there's something to be said there. NW Euros (Germanics) are more liberal than the rest of the continent. But I don't think historical reasons alone can explain the sociopolitical divide between Britain and the mainland. Political views are highly heritable for one. Whether this is a result of the Germanic tribes who migrated to Britain being more liberal or a combination of Celt/Germ ancestry or some reason I don't know. Perhaps the conditions of the island itself selected for certain political orientations.
