I mean think about it, both have an interest in music, but approach it differently. Vera ends up dreaming too big and her only chance at teaching something related to music, makes her become a history teacher instead. She grows bitter due to not being able to pursue what she likes and hates everyone and remains alone.
Maya also likes music, and you could argue she likes the same alternative rock that Vera would have liked if she was born later, she dreams of playing an instrument, daydreams in the shower of just being out in the open and playing a guitar, she tries to go to a concert with Epke and Enke (it was scrapped as an idea albeit) but doesn't find the courage. And thanks to the massive autism here, we also know that Maya is not going to have a great life, she will try to pursue something, fail at it, then settle for something worse, and she'll end up even more bitter and alone.
It's obvious that both of their characters are set up in such a way that later on, would have made it possible for them to develop together, but since Massa is a SLF, we'll never know
