Creating an animation full of controversial humor was basically a bullseye for that audience <Reddit >Whoever brought Ongezellig to 4chan likely didn’t do it because it’s an animation about 'cute girls' but because of how controversial it was. My guess is the fandom always had racist tendencies, which grew stronger over time. But as with most 4chan memes, it also started becoming more mainstream and sanitized.
