exactly, that's the point, if you look at thing superficially then well, you can't see the difference or you can even conclude that things got better because the current culture is opposed to gooning even more and more is better as we all know, the problem is they are opposed for wrong reasons, there isn't really any moral or scientific background behind it, just pure groupthink, that's why a person who disagrees gets labeled as a member of a (fake) out-group instead of receiving an articulated explanation, the problem is the old users are long gone, the new users assimilate the culture they see on a superficial, behavioral level because of course a member of a group needs to do what everyone else does, overdoing it a little bit (just like people who see soyspeak for the first time start apostrophizing every word) to show how good members of the group they are, now repeat this cycle a few time (ship of theseus) and you get the modern zarty full of screaming retards sticking to traditions origins of which they don't know and don't care about
