Maya correctly surmised and later had her suspicions confirmed that coco wanted to hang out with maya not because it would be fun but because she feels an obligation (or worse, pity) towards her sister. Maya sees this as affectatious behavior and it gnaws on her insecurities. Nobody wants to have company that only feel obliged to accompany you and NOBODY likes to be pitied.
