Up This is 50/50 true Especially wanted to point out that the word "Slav" came from the word "Slowo" (word), i.e. those who could speak in the understandable (slavic) language, and not from the word "Slave". In contrast to the ethnonym "Slowiany" ("Slavs" in slavic), the ethnonym "Niemcy" appeared, which meant "mute", i.e. those who couldn't speak in the understandable (slavic) language. That's the actual etymology of the ethnonym.
